I really hope we do not come to regret letting Sitton go a little too soon in the scheme of things....... I fear we might.
I do not think it was too early. Both he and Slauson have had trouble staying on the field. Pack got rid of Sitton due to injury concerns and Bears got one solid season out of his. Last year he was good when on the field. 13 games a year is not what you want from a starting O-lineman. Lets see who Pace finds to replace him. I like that ND Mauler Nelson at number 8.
I just think depth, and veteran leadership is worth hanging on to guys until they get beat out fair and square. I'm not a big fan of letting that element go based on speculation. I understand if cap space is needed but that is not the case, so this is no different than when they let Urlacher or Peanut go imo. Forte as well. We got lucky and beat the odds with Forte but the other two have yet to be truly replaced and its been years,
To me it's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Or their medical staff telling them it is time to move on. Players sometimes do not believe their playing days are over and they still feel they can play. Sometime they are no longer a scheme fit as they get older. It was questioned last year whether Sitton could still play on the left side or if he needed to switch with Kyle and play RG. Kyles injuries derailed that move and made it a moot point. We will see what this season shows with Sitton in Miami. As in the Slauson case, he still had gas left but injuries are slowing him down and his reliability is diminishing.
I do not think the Bears are cutting their noses off to spite anyone. I doubt very seriously Sitton would be okay with being made a backup. Guys like Slauson and Sitton see themselves as starters and every down players. I agree with you, their veteran leadership is valuable up to the point they become disgruntled. Not every veteran has the personality makeup to take a step back to help the team. Some can do it, most cannot.
Orlando Scandrick gets his wish, will be released by Cowboys
Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been asking for his release, and now he’ll get it.
Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the Cowboys have informed Scandrick he will be released.
The 31-year-old Scandrick is still capable of starting when healthy, but he’s coming off a season in which he missed five games with back and hand injuries. He hasn’t played all 16 games in a season since 2013.
Now Scandrick will be a free agent, and he’ll hope to convince some team he can stay healthy and get one more contract worthy of a starting cornerback.

This is an example of when a team is trying to do the right thing and hold onto an aging veteran. One who is most likely a rotational player at best at this point in his career. But the player still thinks he his a starter and does not want to be a team player. He has not played 16 games in the last 4 seasons. But still thinks he can and the team does not.
This what happens when star athletes get old and are in denial. They are not listening to their bodies or their medical staff/trainers.

The market has moved surprisingly slow for Pernell McPhee, but the former Bears linebacker finally has his first known visit.
McPhee is in Washington, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports, with the visit extending into Monday.
The Bears cut McPhee three weeks ago in a cost-cutting move as he had a $7.7 million cap hit for this season. They signed him to a five-year, $38.75 million deal in 2015, and he started only 17 games with 14 sacks. He missed 12 games with injuries.
McPhee, 29, has 31 sacks in his seven seasons. He spent his first four seasons in Baltimore after the Ravens made him a fifth-round pick.

You know your career is over when the only team that asks you in for an interview is Washington. Is Pernells name still big enough to get him a contract? Is he someone who Danny boy wants to hang out with?

The Steelers have made an addition to their linebacking corps.
According to multiple reports, they have signed Jon Bostic to a two-year deal.
Bostic has bounced around the league in recent years as he has spent time with the Bears, Patriots, Lions and Colts since the 2015 season opened. He settled into a starting role in Indianapolis last year after missing all of 2016 with a foot injury and made 97 tackles in 14 starts.
The Steelers were in the market for help at inside linebacker with Ryan Shazier out of action due to last year’s spinal injury. They have Vince Williams for one spot with 2016 seventh-round pick Tyler Matakevich also on hand.
Former Bears, Broncos and Panthers head coach John Fox probably won’t roam an NFL sideline again, but he has another job.
Fox was hired by ESPN as a studio analyst, Richard Deitsch of The Athletic reports.
Although he wasn’t known as the most media-friendly coach during his days in the NFL, the 63-year-old Fox will now move into an analyst role that has previously been filled by former coaches like Herm Edwards and Bill Parcells.
The most prominent job on ESPN, Monday Night Football analyst, remains unfilled.

Plus there is no off set to his Bears salary either if he does not coach this year. So Foxy is doing a little double dipping! Must be nice pulling in two paychecks for doing nothing but bumpin' your gums!
Jeremy Langford is now left to find yet another NFL home. The New York Jets announced on Friday that Langford, quarterback Joel Stave, running back Jahad Thomas and wide receiver Daniel Williams have all been waived. Langford has bounced around the league since his departure from the Chicago Bears ahead of the start of last season.

So glad that we moved on from that experiment as fast as we did. Kid had potential, just could not quite bring it all together.
It is so strange that he showed such promise in his rookie season, the Bears felt comfortable moving on from Matt Forte. When his plate was full, he could not manage it. Seems he is more of a Nr.2 back and not a primary back. I wish him well and hope he finds his place.
The Saints signed veteran offensive tackle Michael Ola to a one-year deal after a tryout during the team’s rookie minicamp, Joel Erickson of the Advocate reports.
He will compete with Rick Leonard, a fourth-round pick, and others for the swing tackle job left open by Zach Strief’s retirement.
Ola, 30, played in the CFL and spent time with seven other NFL teams. He has appeared in 32 NFL games with 19 starts since 2014.
Ola saw action in two games with the Chargers last season. He played 15 snaps on offense and one on special teams.
