Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But outside of George Halas, I believe the Bears have hired only one head coach who had previous NFL head coaching experience. (John Fox) I always assumed it was because they were too cheap to pay an established name. My guess is that that they go the same route.

Pace should be gone too. Start fresh. They'll probably fire him after next season, then have a hard time finding a new GM who will have to accept the fact that the head coach is locked into a three-year deal, and won't be allowed to be fired.

How about Vikings GM Rick Spielman for Gm?

He's familiar with the opponents in the division. He seems to hit in the first few rounds of the draft most years.....he has built up the Vikings depth on their roster the last few years.

Only strike I'd have against him is the bloated contract he gave to QB Cousins. He pulled a Pace with that one.

I think Spielman is as bad as Pace in the draft. He also gave two horrible contracts to Cousins and let the QB that did nothing but win and give them their best season of late, walk!

Outside of Forest Greg, Ray Rhodes is the only HC the packers have hired with previous NFL head coaching experience.  Have you always assumed it was because they were too cheap to pay an established name as well?

By the way, since you posted that the Bears fired Pace as well, so you were wrong on that one too Nostradumbass.

I think a good look at Flores from the Dolphins should be in order also!

Dolphins had QB Tua T, and it seemed like he progressed quite a bit under this staff. Biggest drawback was the kid couldn't stay healthy iirc.

Wanted: intelligent football savvy head coach. Contact George McCaskey.

Report: Dolphins, Bears seek to interview Brian Daboll

Posted by Charean Williams on January 10, 2022, 9:06 PM EST

Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll had several interviews for head coaching jobs in the last hiring cycle. He interviewed with the Chargers and Jets a year ago.

Daboll will get other opportunities this offseason.

The Dolphins and Bears have requested permission from the Bills to interview Daboll, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Daboll, the team’s offensive coordinator since 2018, won assistant coach of the year in 2020 for his work with Josh Allen and the team’s offense. He previously served as offensive coordinator of the Browns, Dolphins, Chiefs and at the University of Alabama.

The Bears also have Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on their list.

Daboll is the first known candidate for the Dolphins’ vacancy.

Shouldn't the Bears get a GM in place first??? Putting the Cart before the Horse once again. Who is actually going to conduct this interveiw? The Bean counter or the Ticket Booth attendant?

Report: Bears request interview with Leslie Frazier

Posted by Charean Williams on January 10, 2022, 3:11 PM EST

The Bears didn’t waste any time getting started on their coaching search after firing Matt Nagy. Even though they haven’t found a General Manager yet to replace Ryan Pace, team president Ted Phillips and consultant Bill Polian are lining up candidates for the head coaching job.

Dan Graziano of ESPN reports the Bears requested permission to interview Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

Frazier played for the Bears from 1981-85, leading the team in interceptions during their Super Bowl XX championship season.

Frazier has head coaching experience, taking over the Vikings as interim coach in 2010 before getting the full-time job from 2011-13. He went 21-32-1 and made the postseason once in his tenure in Minnesota.

He has spent the past five seasons as the Bills’ defensive coordinator.

Brian Flores to interview with Bears

Posted by Myles Simmons on January 11, 2022, 11:16 AM EST

Fired by the Dolphins on Monday, Brian Flores may not be out of work for very long.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Flores is set to interview with the Bears for their head coaching vacancy.

Flores’ firing came as a surprise to many after the Dolphins finished 9-8 on Sunday. The club began the season 1-7 before ripping off seven straight wins to get to 8-7. Miami lost to the Titans in Week 17 to fall out of playoff contention but beat the Patriots in Week 18 to finish the season above .500.

Flores compiled a 24-25 record in three seasons with the Dolphins, going 5-11 in 2019 and 10-6 in 2020.

The Bears are also looking for a General Manager after firing both Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace on Monday.

Ideally I think it would be best to get a GM in place, but given that the Bears are now in need of both a HC and GM, if there is opportunity to speak with prospective candidates for one or the other position I don't think that opportunity should be lost.  I don't see the harm in initial discussions with a potential HC even it's just to gauge their interest in the position and get a sense of what they might be looking for.

To answer your question though, I think the ticket booth attendant is most qualified of the two.

I agree Spielman had some great drafts with the Vikings and provided the team with a lot of talent. I was surprised he was let go. Living in Minnesota, most people believe the head coach was the reason for the teams poor performance and not Spielman. I agree Spielman big mistake was the inflated contract for Cousins. However the contract for the team overall has kept crawling up each year. They have had to let many players go because of $$$. I was disappointed when the Bears let Spielman go.

I think we can take Ryan Day Ohio State HC off our wish lists for Head Coach of the Chicago Bears.

He just poached the OC from Oklahoma (I think) for $2 M and the Oline Coach from Oregon (???Not sure where, could have been Idaho) for another $1 M. Uprooting two families to come to Ohio and then quit and leave does not sound like a move from a guy that want to coach in the NFL.

That is not the way to build a reputation as a HC and Leader. Plus all the High School Juniors that announced for Ohio State would be pissed if he left. I think he is still chasing a National Championship at Ohio and not even thinking NFL. Besides, it is not everyones dream to coach in the Pros. Some guys really like the College game and its way of playing football. Roster churn and looking for the next great college star has its appeal. No Salary cap outside of scholarship money. Unlike the Pro's, if a player there gets out of line you can just cut him and take away his ticket. Way power and say so in the College game as HC. No GM, just an AD that wants to win and Prime time games to make revenue from.
