Re: Rebuilding the Bears

I had previously floated the idea of Ryan Day as the next HC of the Bears and also the idea of Trace Armstrong as the new GM. But what about Teddy? Dude needs to be sent back to the bean counting department. Ted and Georges combined knowledge of football is less than the combined number of playoff wins of Matt Nagy led Bears.

Bears really need a President of Football Operations who actually knows something about football. George has admitted to knowing nothing about football and is just a fan. (Papa Halas rolls over in his grave every time his Grandson says something that stupid.) Until they get someone for a GM to report to, the Bears will continue to circle the drain of ineptitude. How the McCaskey clan can live their entire life around the Bears organization and not learn something about the game is beyond me! How did George run the Ticket office selling tickets to football games and not learn anything? I mean, you have to learn about your product to sell it? Right? Or was it one of those "no show" jobs like college players get while playing?

Here is an idea...put George and Phillips in charge of picking out the new drapes for the Arlington Stadium. Hire a President of Football Ops. Let him hire a new GM, then let the two of them find a new HC. Let that new GM and HC put together a staff and create a 5 year plan to return to dominance in the NFCN. Beat the Packers, win the division, win the conference, win a Super Bowl. In that order!

How about Ryan Day for an outside-the-box hire? It wouldn't hurt for the Bears to give him a call. Day was Chip Kelly's quarterbacks coach for the Eagles in 2015 and 49ers in 2016, then offensive coordinator at Ohio State and became the head coach after Urban Meyer retired.

He coached Fields at Ohio State, is 34-4 as the head coach with Big Ten championships in 2019 and 2020. Fields completed 68.4% of his passes for 5,373 yards with 63 touchdowns to nine interceptions in two seasons with Day, while also rushing for 15 touchdowns. That aint bad.

Reuniting Day with Fields could work.........he has NFL experience and knows how to work with our shiny new QB. Chicago might just be the only NFL job Day would want, which is also an advantage for the Bears.

Of guys I've thought about Jim H. is still my top choice but Day is another thought.

If the Bears Hire Jim Harbaugh, they will have to make him the GM too. Or let him hire his own flunky. Basically, the 49ers Shannahan situation all over again. Hired the big name HC and then searched for a GM. Settling for an ex-player/talking head to fill that slot. No good GM prospect is going to want to come into an organization that has already picked a high profile HC. Because if the Bears want Harbaugh, they are going to have to act very fast. They won't have time to find their GM and get him on board with all this, in time.

Personally, I think Harbaugh stays at Michigan and is courting the NFL to drive up his salary at Michigan.

But I like Day, I think he may not be wanting to leave Ohio State just yet. He still wants to get a National Championship first. And Beat Harbaughs Michigan a few dozen more times.

Great job Cob. Thank you for providing the list. My hope is the Bears make a good choice. With the mess Pace left the team they should allow the new GM a few years to right the ship,

Did you know that Charles Leno has a 2022 Dead Cap hit of $2,788,000 million dollars for the Bears. Man, that Ryan Pace was a hell of a contract negotiator and GM!

No wonder the Bears are carrying a $33,460,000 Million Dead Cap in 2022

Bears have only $34 million Cap space to start the new year and rebuild this roster.

Bears have 2 LT's and 1 RT under contract for 2022 as it stand right now. 3 WR's and 1 TE too. They have 3 RB's and 3 QB's (Fields, Foles and Willis).2 G's Whitehair and Eileson, 0 Centers, 3 DTs, 5 DEs, 4 OLBs, 3 ILBs and 3 CBs and 1 Safety! Well at least they have a Kicker.but no punter and no LS.

This rebuild is going to take a few years to sort out.

Interesting that the Bears and Vikings have almost the exact same list of HC and GM Candidates.
