Eddie Goldman’s Health Might Be Why the Bears Signed Two Defensive Linemen This Morning
A mere 15 minutes after The Athletic’s Adam Jahns hears that nose tackle Eddie Goldman is “dealing with an injury,” the Bears made transaction action. The team cut defensive tackle Auzoyah Alufohai and running back Artavis Pierce from the practice squad, and in their place, brought in defensive linemen Marcus Hunt and Damion Square.

Eddie sitting out last season should mean he had over a year to heal up and get in great shape. Or it was over a year since he had worked out and only started getting in football shape once he reported to camp? It may be he is just not ready to play Professional football yet. I just don't know any other way he could be injured or hurting already after only a handful of pre-season snaps. Did he trip over his wife's dog? Strain himself lifting a cereal box? I know teams do not like talking about injuries, but this is very discouraging. Is Eddie, like Tommy Harris? A very short shelf life football wise? Is he now snake bit, and injury prone? Please let it not be the dreaded back injury. It is bad enough that the Bears drafted yet another LT with this problem, we do not need our NT sitting in the whirlpool too, rehabbing.
For a second-straight day, Goldman was out of practice due to what Matt Nagy described as a “tweak” to his knee during Monday’s workout. It’s put his status for Sunday in the air as he looks to play in his first NFL game since December 22, 2019 against the Chiefs at Soldier Field.
Goldman missed the season finale against the Vikings the following week.
It’s a setback for the nose tackle who was critical in helping the front seven develop into one of the best in all of football in 2018 and 2019. The 2015 second round pick, who was the second selection of the Ryan Pace Era, Goldman has 153 career tackles and 12 1/2 sacks and was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2019.
Not attending voluntary and mandatory mini-camps this spring and summer, Goldman has spent training camp working his way back into form as he steps back into the lineup. Despite the COVID setback, Nagy believed that Goldman was on his way to doing just that before dealing with this injury.
“He’s looking pretty good. He’s in a good place. We’ve just got to see where he’s at,” said Nagy of Goldman. “Other than that, man, he’s been rocking and rolling this whole time. Just proud of him for that. I think the biggest thing for us going into this was trying to figure out where he was conditioning-wise and everything, and he did great with that.”
Whether he’ll get the chance to show his skills thanks to that work is still to be seen with one more practice to go before Sunday’s opener.
I could not agree with you more Cob. I know the Rams have two good corners, but the third is unproven. Looks like ARob will get heavy coverage. Lets hope Mooney, and other WR's and tight Ends can pick up the slack. I hope the running game produces to tame doen the Ram pass rush.

Scary is that we have no true backup for him. This is the price we pay for Pace giving up draft picks like pez. Zero depth on this team.
Train like you are 2nd, but play like you are 1st.

Well, that sucks. Just do not have a warm fuzzy about this season.

I have long since put Eddie Goldman in the same category as Tommy Harris, post knee injury.
I will just say..."The best ability is Avalability"
