Vikings trade Mike Hughes to Kansas City Chiefs

Well. . .didn’t see this coming

By Christopher Gates May 13, 2021, 4:33pm CDT

A couple of weeks ago when the Minnesota Vikings failed to pick up the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of cornerback Mike Hughes, it turned 2021 into a “prove it” year for the Vikings’ 2018 first-round pick.

As of today, he’s going to be “proving it” somewhere else.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have agreed to trade Hughes to the Kansas City Chiefs, along with a 2022 seventh-round pick. According to sources, the Vikings have gotten a 2022 sixth-round pick back from the Chiefs in exchange, which is a pretty disappointing return on a player that was mostly a disappointment in his three years with the Vikings.

Hughes battled injuries the entire time he was with the Vikings. A torn ACL ended his rookie year after just six games, and while he did play in 14 games in 2019, he appeared in just four games last season before hitting injured reserve.

Hughes ends his career with the Vikings with two interceptions and 13 passes defended in 24 career games.

The Vikings must be pretty confident in the state of their cornerback room right now, which seems strange given the ongoing situation with Jeff Gladney and some of the issues they had last season. However they feel about their cornerback room going forward, however, they won’t be seeing Mike Hughes in that room any longer.

**** I guess this makes him a First Round Bust like Mitch Trubisky

With JuJu Smith-Schuster facing surgery, the #Steelers are planning to bring in free agent WR @AnthonyMiller_3 for a physical tomorrow, I’m told by someone apprised of the team’s plans. The former second round pick of the #Bears is known as tough, and a good worker.

LOL, Tough and a Good Worker? Okay, but they forgot to add that he is a hothead and prone to stupid penalties for taunting that negate huge plays. Also, at time has greasy fingers and that makes him prone to inopportune drops.

He will most likely get a Vet min contract. At least Pace got a Ham sammich for him from the Texans.

2021  At least I am not a Lions Fan!

Fire Nagy now!

Pace is really going to hamstring future years salary cap. Just can't help himself!

Was really the only significant way to get above water. Quinn has been much better this season thankfully

Looks like Bears added a void year and converted about $4.39 million of Quinn’s salary into a bonus https://t.co/tAOLIAUrA9
