Prominent Insiders All Hearing Ryan Pace Is Out As Bears GM
0

The Chicago Bears need to go 4-0 over the next four weeks to reach 9-7 and have any hope of making the playoffs. Considering they’ve lost their last six in a row? One can understand why fans aren’t holding their breath. Even if they finish 8-8, it doesn’t feel like that will be enough to save jobs. Not after the team started 5-1. Matt Nagy? Ryan Pace? Both are squarely on the hot seat.

Will George McCaskey actually pull the trigger though? He did say one of his biggest problems as an owner is not having enough patience. Sometimes it’s better to let things play out. However, he can’t possibly ignore the state this team is in. It’s the second-oldest in the NFL and carrying some zeppelin-sized contracts for guys who haven’t lived up to them. They have no quarterback. People can argue the status of Nagy, but the general agreement centers on one reality.

Pace has to go.

It appears some of the top insiders around the league are hearing this exact reality. Benjamin Allbright of Pro Football Network was asked if the Bears are planning to shake things up after the season ends. He didn’t beat around the bush.

“THEY WILL. I THINK THEY ARE. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT CLEARING HOUSE WHICH INCLUDES GENERAL MANAGER AND HEAD COACH AND STARTING OVER.”

He’s not alone. Kalyn Kahler of Bleacher Report has done some outstanding investigative pieces in recent years. Her sources in the NFL are very strong. So when she dug around on what to expect with the Bears, everybody said the same thing.

AS FOR ANY FIRINGS TO COME, ALL THE SOURCES INTERVIEWED FOR THIS STORY AGREED THAT CHICAGO’S GENERAL MANAGER JOB IS LIKELY TO BECOME AVAILABLE. “THE BEARS COULD COME OPEN,” SAYS ONE NFC PERSONNEL EXECUTIVE. “WHICH THEY SHOULD, BECAUSE ANYONE WHO PICKED MITCH TRUBISKY OVER [DESHAUN] WATSON AND [PATRICK] MAHOMES … I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE THAT.”

It was said at the time he chose Trubisky that Pace's future would be linked to that pick. The chickens have come home to roost and it's time to pay the piper for a colossal blunder. PAce has a 66% chance of getting that pick right and still blew it. Sorry, there are consequences.

The biggest indictment against Pace this season, is his obvious disregard for doing anything to improved the OL.  It's just mind numbing to think Pace thought the current roster of OL men was good enough to provide reasonable  time for either QBs to complete anything other than a short pass!

Matt Nagy: "I know we need to run the ball more. I'm not an idiot."

Sluggobear will be very happy when Pace, Nagy and Teddy are history. Do we need to rebuild, probably we do. We have started to see some crumbling on the defense, or is it the players are sending a clear message to George McC. that they want Nagy and Pace gone.  I feel sorry for the new President, GM and coach. They will need years to correct the mess that Pace has left the Bears.  First we need a new QB, two OT to start the rebuild. My gut says ARob will take off because of Nagy. I think he loves Chicago and would not probably leave if Nagy and Pace were eliminated. We will probably see some starters traded in the off season for the right draft capital. This will cause us to draft replacement players, who could grow on the job as the team continues the rebuild. How come other teams have players ready to fill in when the injury bug hits. I have been to many rebuilds being a Bear fan so long. Some rebuilds were not even completed, and a new rebuild had to be started. The only time I thought we were on the right track was when Finks built the Bears SB team. That was 35+ years ago. Go Bears

You paint a depressing but accurate picture. Two tackles, a QB, and an elite receiver will probably take years to assemble. They need stars on offense and if A-rob leaves, they have none. On defense, you see the writing on the wall. The injuries are starting to pile up for Hicks and Mack and both will be in their 30s next year. I pray the new DC knows how to use Jackson, or maybe the money went to his head. Fuller is another one on the wrong side of 30 after this year. Trevethan... I agree, the new guys are screwed.

Yes, he built up a spectacular D in 2018 but blew it by not matching it with an NFL caliber offense. His record his first few years can be excused, good 2018 season wasted by offensive failure in the playoffs, and then poor play in 2019 and 2020. Time to move on.

Another major Pace mistake was letting Nagy talk him into the Foles trade. We lost draft capital and picked up a poor contract with Foles. It was just a matter of a few games and Mitchell was out and Foles was steering the offense. Foles play this year is not even close to Mitchell's performance. I read an interesting article today if Nagy had stayed with Mitch versus going with Foles what the Bears record would have been. The prediction was on the conservative side. We would have been 7 and 6 or better, if the change was not made. The author made all kinds of adjustments to come up with his calculations. Moving from run first with Mitch to a pass first with Foles. The author did not feel the Bears were Superbowl contender, but should be at a minimum a playoff bound team.
