I'd like to see a different running back

I'm not sure what it is that gives some players a pass for so long. David Montgomery has been consistently well below average, and while it's fair to blame a crappy o-line and poor play calling, I don't remember Jeremy Langford or Kadeem Carey getting cut such slack.

Montgomery spends way too much time stutter stepping when the Bears need a one cut back. Even a straight ahead runner might be better. Holes remain open for such a short period that by the time Montgomery accelerates, they are closed. This is another situation where I think it's time to give a different back some carries to pinpoint the problem. It's very possible Gale Sayers couldn't run behind this line, but it's hard to image Nall or Pierce could average any worse than 3.7 ypc and 2.1 ypc in the last 3 games.

From my perspective, the play calling and poor line play are the major reasons for the lack of a running game. Poor play calling has caused us to get behind early, and force us to go pass happy and abandon the running game. This makes us one dimensional.  I find it hard to blame Monty.

You're probably right, but I'd like verification. Nall is more of a power back, and I suspect that would work better with this line that can't sustain blocks or gain leverage. Looks like we'll find out Monday

It sure would be nice to see the running game get going. I don't care who runs the ball. With all the turmoil on the OL and backups playing, it might not be a true test. The Vikes always play us close, and will go out of their way to shut down run game and make us pass.

This is a make or break game, so the Bears better figure it out.

I'd really like to see this Pierce kid.....see if he's a scat back runner.

Nall has been with the Bears going on 3 years and can't break into even a relief role for Monty...what are we missing as far as practice performance goes....if the kid had anything to offer he should of made it onto the field by now.

Why hasn't anybody developed into more than just a roster filler on offense? Pretty sure I know the answer to my own question on this one! (Cough....Nagy.......Cough!)

Still holding out hope for my Pet Cat. I think if he gets to see the field he will shock the fans. But I do not think Montgomery is a bust by any means. But we need to throw some curve balls at the defenses. Right now they can key in on his weaknesses and shut him down. They don't have to game plan for any change of pace at all.

Honestly the run game is dearly missing Cohen. The second he went down all growth that we were seeing this year came to a screeching halt. Pierce might be the one to help fill his spot.

I forgot about Cohen. That's a good point, but in fairness, he wasn't much of a factor in 2019. I think at this point, what makes sense is to try something, anything different to see if it gives a spark to the offense. In all liklihood, the run game is bad because the line is bad. But I don't think Montgomery's skill set is best suited for this line. He's a patient runner who waits for a hole to develop, but this line never develops one. I think a one cut back would be moew productive. Hit the hole during the initial suge because that's about as good as it gets. I hope the other backs get a chance on Monday. I mean seriously, how much worse could Nall or Pierce be? It would be hard to be much worse than 3.7 ypc.

If you even think of asking to see a different Dlineman we are going to have to lynch you Bill.

But, I wonder what we will see on Monday. Somebody is going to get a chance to prove they should not have been sitting on the bench. Maybe the Next Howard?
