Get your Popcorn Ready!

Aaron Rodgers will speak to reporters on Friday

Posted by Mike Florio on May 14, 2020, 4:50 PM EDT

Get your popcorn ready. And your Scotch.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t spoken publicly since the draft. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, Rodgers will do so on Friday, at 2:00 p.m. CT.

Rodgers has spoken privately to former Packers quarterback Brett Favre, and Favre’s public characterization of the call has made it clear that Rodgers wasn’t pleased with the draft picks made (a quarterback in round one) and not made (no receivers in any of the rounds) by the team, that Rodgers will finish his career elsewhere, and that Rodgers is starting to feel like the odd man out.

Everything Rodgers says and doesn’t say on Friday will be closely scrutinized. He will, as he always does, choose his words carefully. He may scoff at the notion that he’s unhappy. He may reiterate his intent to remain with the Packers until he retires.

Although his remarks will be calculated and tactical, his explanation could conflict in whole or in part with the things Favre said. If that happens, here’s hoping that Rodgers will be asked specifically to reconcile his words with Favre’s. Indeed, if Rodgers disagrees with the things Favre said on multiple radio shows after talking to Rodgers, Rodgers should be willing to say that we shouldn’t waste our time reading crap like that.

Will Rodgers throw Favre under the bus? Most likely.

Will Rodgers be honest? No, he will deflect and defer and dodge.

Why even have a Press Conference at all? This guy is paid to play football. What is he? The GM too? Team President? The all knowing Wizard of Lambeau?

The question I hope gets asked is....."Did you call your Mom last Sunday? Did you wish her a happy Mother's Day?"

......... I hope they ask him if knows whether or not Favre showed up at any of those "speaking engagements".

Put the popcorn away....

I Kinda Hate How Good Aaron Rodgers’ Response Was to the Packers Drafting QB Jordan Love

I’ve had popcorn ready for weeks, as I patiently awaited Aaron Rodgers response to the Green Bay Packers moving up in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select wide receiver offensive lineman defensive playmaker quarterback Jordan Love with their first pick.

On Friday, Rodgers did just that in speaking with Packers media for the first time since the draft.

Wow. That’s equal parts diplomatic, honest, endearing, and impressive. I almost hate how good of an answer that is, especially considering Rodgers’ past as someone who has long been outspoken about everything from coaches coming and going, personnel decisions, his teammates (past and present), and has been painted as a bit of a red-ass in some circles. Heck, Rodgers was in Love’s shoes years ago when he was drafted to be groomed as Brett Favre’s heir apparent. These calm, cool, and collected comments from Rodgers isn’t exactly what I was expecting. I mean, seriously … what the heck, man? I’m not supposed to vibe with these statements. COME ON!

I gotta agree with the author and give Rodgers credit......... that was a great answer and about as diplomatic and fair and honest as it could possibly be.

Damn.

Spin needed!!

Rodgers has already accepted defeat, recognizes the Packers do t want him anymore. Probably starting to realize his failure to lead the team to more championships will be his downfall. Rumors are teammates have started to make it known how much his lack of leadership has hurt teams over the years. Most are still too scared to speak out.

So he had a speechwriter work on a carefully worded response in hopes he can convince another team he is less a cancer and more a winner.

Wait for it.....wait for it

The passive aggressive assault will begin shortly.

No way this self-centered Douche Bag accepts this. He will be torpedoing his GM and HC soon enough. When they lost a few games, he will be throwing shade everywhere as to why that is the case.

Keep that popcorn ready.

It

will

happen!

Word is already filtering out that Rodgers was not warned about the pick. He’s not happy about it either. Wilbon went even further, saying he can predict where the star QB will end up playing a couple of years down the road.

“TONY, I UNDERSTAND THEIR THINKING. YOU KNOW WHAT I SEE? I’M GOING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING NOW THAT YOU’RE GOING TO THINK’S PREPOSTEROUS. AARON RODGERS IS GOING TO BE IN A BEARS UNIFORM SOMETIME IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. THAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN.”

It’s rather remarkable how similar the career paths have been between Rodgers and Favre. Both were dominant for the first half of their careers, winning multiple MVP awards. Both won a Super Bowl but came up short despite several opportunities afterward. Now both have experienced their team drafting a successor in the 1st round before they truly believe they’re done.

Favre was angry when the Packers shoved him out the door in 2008, exiling him to the New York Jets. After a year there, he ended up signing with the Minnesota Vikings just so he could get his revenge on Green Bay. Wilbon has seen this movie before and believes this is the sequel. Rodgers will be pushed out of town well before he feels he’s done. He might spend a year on another team then return to the NFC North. This time though it will be the Bears instead of the Vikings who welcome him in.
