LoL!

Brett Favre caught up in federal welfare scandal

According to the New York Times, Favre has agreed to pay back the money he received from the Mississippi DHS. According to the New York Times, the state auditor has said Favre did not know the payments he received had been funded with federal welfare grants.

Brett Favre is caught up in a scandal for accepting $1.1 million in federal welfare money for speaking engagements he never even attended, according to the Associated Press.

According to the AP, a state auditor found $94 million in questionable spending by the Mississippi Department of Human Services, including the payments to Favre.

The audit says Favre Enterprises was paid $500,000 in 2017 and $600,000 in 2018 to make three speeches at various engagements, but Favre never even showed up to the events.

According to the report, Favre faces no criminal charges for accepting the money and no-showing.

State auditor Shad White told the AP that the scandal was “the most egregious misspending my staff have seen in their careers.”

Favre can claim he didn't know the money came from welfare grants, but how the hell do you explain away accepting that much money and never attending the events the money was reported to have been paying him to speak at?

What a freaking D-Bag............

That seemed messed up to me as well. When I first heard about it, I assumed that the events got canceled, maybe he slacked of returning it, or thought it would be rescheduled. Something. But it appears like he just flat out took the money and did not go. Hard not to think there was some backroom dealing going on there.

My respect for Farve is taking a little hit there. Hoping in the end the "rest of the story" comes out.

Any respect i had for Favre went away when the Croc's photo showed up. Hitting on a Physical Therapist while your wife is undergoing Cancer treatment is always a classy Douche bag move.

Brett Favre claims now it was payment for a PSA he did for Mississippi. He was not aware where the money came from.

idk....I hated this man for years for owning the Bears, but this could be a honest mistake.

Exactly....not defending the douche bag, but since when are athletes considered the smartest Spatula in the Utensil drawer? Most star athletes are passed along through the school system so they retain eligibility, not book smarts.

Farve probably, like most HoFers, just figured this was the going rate for a PSA. $50K - $100K (plus travel) to speak for 20 minutes at a dinner and so forth. Like ex-Presidents and other celebrities.

Except if you read a little further you will find it was over $1m of "speaking" arrangements that he took money for AND NEVER SHOWED UP FOR ANY OF THEM.

And Favre already called bullshit on that. he said the money was for a PSA. He said he has never missed a speaking engagement. This is Mississippi we are talking about, between them and Louisiana there is some seriously shyster type activities around all government money. This sounds like a normal South East Political transaction. Steal it from the needy cause they can't afford a lawyer to look into it.

Like I said, I am not suporting the douche here. But I did read the original article and his rebuttal, the truth lies somewhere in between.

I must be missing something then because what I read is that the IRS has a record of the transaction, regardless of where the money originated from the transactions have been recorded/reported in relation to two events, neither which Mr. Favre attended.  Favre says he had no idea the source of the money but I don't see anywhere that he offers explaination for not having any record of having attended the event he was "aledgedly thought" to be recieving payment for.
