Bears waive Josh Simmons, sign Joe Walker

On Saturday morning, the Bears stayed active. Just before their first appearance at Soldier Field this season, they made two corresponding roster moves. The first was waiving defensive back Josh Simmons. Then with the new space on their 90-man preseason roster free, they acquired receiver Joe Walker.

If Walker’s to actualize his potential as a pro football player, suffice to say it probably won’t happen with the Bears and their receiving corps laden with top-tier ability and depth. Like many of his background, Walker’s new niche is special teams. There’s plenty of time and opportunity—four preseason games and nearly all of August—for Walker to leave an imprint.

........ how many freaking WRs are on this 90 man roster now?

Best guess is they have about 25 WRs on or about the roster at any given time....

You just wait till next year!

2020 is the year the Bears put it all together!

Go Bears!

Bears waive rookie WR Emanuel Hall

The battle for the final wide receiver spot became a bit more clear Tuesday morning as the the Chicago Bears announced they waived rookie undrafted free agent (UDFA) WR Emanuel Hall. Hall’s release almost guarantees that WRs Marvin Hall and Javon Wims to will secure the final receiver spots on the 53-man roster. Both players had good camps, particularly Wims, who shined in almost every practice, and Marvin Hall provides the deep threat the Bears were hoping to get in Emanuel Hall.

Yeh, too bad.  I had high hopes for him too. I suspect his injury status must have something to do with it.  They are so deep at WR, they must not feel good about his chances of overcoming whatever is holding him back soon enough to give him a chance to compete with this group in any meaningfull way with the time left this preseason.

This leaves Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, Cordarrelle Patterson, Riley Ridley and Marvin Hall as the main names left at wide receiver.  They could keep all seven.

I think they will eventually cut the second Hall and go with 6. Too many questions at TE, I bet we see 5 kept there.

Issues at TE were the reason I thought they might go 7 WRs actually, just in case they need to go away from using TEs so much
