The Cut Thread

The first big waves of FA are in the books, the draft is come and gone, and only small additions and tweaks are left going into camp to begin competing for those precious few final 53 roster spots.  From here on out we go from adding........ to subtracting.  With all this competition there are some players who might be feeling just a tad uncomfortable right about now and know damn well they have gone from comfortable in their roll on the team to fighting for their jobs.

Of the 53 men on the Roster from last season, who do you think gets beat out and cut?

Taquqan Mizzell went from seeing snaps in a playoff game to being one of the most likely players to be cut this summer..........

Javon Wims is far from a lock now that all these WRs have been added to the mix.........

Tanner Gentry might be in worse shape than Wims, his job is not safe that is for sure.

Sherrick McManis should be looking over his shoulder too, he better not get caught loafing.....

I mean let's face it, if one of you guy's pet cats makes that final cut, someone's gotta go.

You are so right!

There is still a spot for Wims on this roster.

Gentry didn't make the cut last year, so I do not think he will make it this year. (He has another year od PS available.

Mizzell was the wrong guy to bring up last season, should have been Nall. ( nall will be lucky to make the cut and may just get dropped to the PS again.

McManis played well in reliefe. (Much better than I thought he could), But he is fighting Father Time, and FT is undefeated.

Another player from last year better be looking over his shoulder and that is Amukamara.

Personally, I hope all the vets are looking over their shoulders.

My bad on Gentry......... You are right he was not on the 53.

I could see Mook in danger of losing his starting spot, but I would be shocked if he was cut.  I think the young blood is good for motivation but to be honest I think Mook locks down that spot again this year.

Mizzell is gone, I don’t see anyway he makes the cut. Pace and Nagy saw his best last season and it wasn’t enough. The top 3 RBs are obvious and there are too many higher potential players to get their chance.

Train like you are 2nd, but play like you are 1st.

Prince may not get cut, but I do expect him to lose his starter spot. Time will tell if he is okay with a backup role or will ak for his release.

Prince had way too many penalties last year, most were do to him losing a step and getting grabby in his old age.

What will the future bring? We shall see, won't we!

Penalties are a worry. And with Buster on the roster now, we can’t afford two penalty liabilities on the field at the same time.

Bears bring in veteran CB Kayvon Webster for a visit

By Patrick Finley
@patrickfinley | email

After drafting two cornerbacks last week, the Bears continued to explore adding depth behind their starters Wednesday. They brought veteran free agent Kayvon Webster for a visit, sources confirmed.

A six-year pro, Webster has appeared in 67 games and starting 15 in stints with the Broncos, Rams and Texans. He started 11 times for Los Angeles two years ago, picking off one pass and batting seven passes. He has two interceptions and 21 passes defensed in his career.

Webster played two games for the Texans last year before injuries struck.

The 28-year-old was a third-round pick of the Broncos in 2013.

The Bears are set at their three starting cornerback positions — Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara will play outside with free agent signee Buster Skrine covering the slot. They drafted Kansas State’s Duke Shelley, a four-year starter, and Valdosta State project Stephen Denmark last week.

*****

Bears are still looking the CB position over. But this looks like a kicking the tires kind of move.

What will the future bring? We shall see, won't we!

I think that Pace is really hoping to find a guy to replace Amukamara. Save the money and upgrade before he becomes a liability.

Becomes a Liability? Pretty sure he was last year.

I think you guys are being a little hard on the Prince........ but it's time to start looking for that next guy for sure.  he isn't getting any younger.
